Objectives
Promote the acquisition of knowledge that enables students to come to intervene in the area of sport for
special populations, particularly in the regular school system.
It is intended specifically for students to:
- identify and understand the characteristics of the inclusive movement in society today;
- understand the benefits of physical activity and sport for special populations,
- understand the organizational structure of Adapted Sports nationally and internationally;
- dominate thetheoretical-practical principles of the various special needs addressed and
- analyze critically sport for people with special needs and their practical implications.
Learning outcomes and competences
The contents defined for this curricular unit intend to enable our students with advanced knowledge in the areas of disability that they will work in physical education classes at the school. In this perspective, the different areas of disability are focused in what regards to its theoretical foundations and in adapted physical activity. Indeed, for different areas, are taught contents that go from definition of the disability, etiology, and characterization, through aspects related to motor development and practice of sport for these populations.
In adapted physical activity are addressed all specific sports for disability, focusing the main strategies and methodologies used in the intervention at school. We intend that our students will be able to plan and implement a physical activity program applied to specific situations in which they will work in the school, aspect contemplated in the aims of this unit.

Teaching methods and learning activities
Lessons will be mainly expositive, always seeking the participation of students trough the questions and
problems related with the topics to teach raised by the teacher.
The students’ evaluation will be performed trough a final exam.

Calculation formula of final grade
To get access to it, students must attend at least 75% of the theoretical and practical/laboratorial lessons. The final exam contains all the contents and topics exposed during the classes.
The maximal possible grade is 20 and the minimal is 0. Students are approved to this Curricular Unit when a grade of 9.5 or higher is obtained in the final exam.
