Objectives

Understand the specificities of the sport.

Incorporate students in the technical team of a club (collaboration), to develop knowledge and the main skills for future professional practice.

Develop and apply the knowledge in different tasks as planning, implementation, conduction and evaluation of training process in Gymnastics.

Manage and conduct the training process of a group of gymnasts, giving support in training and competition.

Acquire theoretical knowledge to face different obstacles or difficulties arising from the practical application.

Develop the necessary skills to organize an official competition of gymnastics.

Understanding the Gymnastics context.

Acquiring the necessary skills to conduct and manage the training process in Gymnastics.

Acquiring the practical skills to lead, plan, control and evaluate the training process in gymnastics.

Acquiring additional knowledge to be able to create different strategies of intervention.

Acquiring knowledge to organize an official competition of Gymnastics.

The students will conduct the training process under practical experience in a Training Center (TC) wich is tutored by a qualified coach and supervised for a responsible teacher.

The students are placed in a club as part of a technical team, to progressively develop the knowledge and the necessary skills to fulfil their professional practice.

Teaching methods and learning activities

The curricular unit of Methodology III – Gymnastics, brings together the following components of work:

- theoretical sessions;

- analysis and discussion of documents;

- participation in seminars and practical sessions;

- organization of an official event - Gymnastics Competition;

- formation by a tutored and supervised professional practice in a gymnastic club.

Eligibility for exams

Participate:

(i) at least 75% of giving lessons;

(ii) 3 units of training per week during the sport season;

(iii) in all competitions that training centre participates held in the Oporto city area.

Calculation formula of final grade

The students will be evaluated in the following components:

- Practical evaluation (50%) – includes tasks of participating in practical sessions, managing training and organizing competitions. In this evaluation are included the frequency requirements (I, ii, iii).

- Written work (30%) - training centre tasks.

- Individual report (20%) – professional formation.
