Resumo (PT): Intitulada: Do Rio ao Jardim , o exemplo do Turia - Valência, esta dissertação pretende ser o reflexo da experiência de ERASMUS, realizada no ultimo ano lectivo na cidade de Valência. O tema surge através da curiosidade em entender a dualidade de sentimentos que os valencianos nutrem pelo “seu” antigo rio. No fundo, tenta procurar respostas do passado no presente, para projectar o futuro do Turia. Assim, o presente trabalho tem como principal objectivo conhecer e compreender o resultado final a nível da cidade de Valência provocado pelas transformações e implicações em torno do rio Turia. Na realidade, no momento em que traçamos o ponto de situação no trabalho, foi perceptível que as alterações, opiniões, ideias, avanços e recuos foram bastantes. Para melhor perceber e ir mais fundo no trabalho, traçamos um percurso evolutivo que abrange o “nascimento” da cidade de Valência até aos dias de hoje, contudo há naturalmente, um período em que nos focamos mais. Começou-se por traçar uma panorâmica dos finais do século XVIII, caracterizado pelo crescimento económico. Rapidamente entramos no século XIX, era da industrialização, onde é fundamental destacar o nascimento dos caminhos de ferro a nível mundial. É no final deste século e inicio do século XX que surgem as propostas de ordenação gerais da cidade de Valência e se inicia uma delas, o Plano Sul, apesar da situação politica em Espanha. O Plano Sul incide na transformação do leito do rio num enorme parque ajardinado, na realidade, Valência quis dar uma nova funcionalidade ao seu rio, convertendo- -o na coluna vertebral da cidade. Quando se fala actualmente do Turia é inevitável falar dos arquitectos Ricardo Boffil e Santiago Calatrava, embora por motivos diferentes. É esta vontade de criar algo novo, que nos levou a estudar este exemplo que aqui apresentamos. Mas os objectivos desta dissertação vão para além disso, propomos também um novo desenho para um sector do Jardim do Turia - em frente às Torres de Serrano. A introdução do elemento água e a retirada pontual dos parapeitos, são os dois pontos fundamentais da proposta, sendo nosso objectivo o de proporcionar à população um espaço onde se possa conviver com todo o antigo caudal do rio.

Abstract (EN): Entitled : Do Rio ao Jardim , o exemplo do Turia - Valência, this dissertation aims to be a reflection of the ERASMUS’ experience held in the last academic year in the city of Valencia. The theme arises from the curiosity to understand the duality of feelings that Valencian people nourish for “their “ ancient river . Deep down it tries to seek answers from the past into the present to project the future of Turia . Thus, the present work has as main goal to know and understand the final result at Valencia’s city caused by the changes and implications around the river Turia . In fact, the moment we outlined the work’s results it was noticeable that the changes, opinions , ideas , advances and retreats were many. To better understand and to go deeper into the work, we draw an evolutionary path that covers the “birth” of the city of Valencia up to today but there is, of course , a period in which we focus more. We started by getting an overview of the late eighteenth century which is characterized by economic growth. Then we quickly entered the nineteenth century, the age of industrialization , which is essential to highlight the birth of railways worldwide. It is in the end of this century and in the early twentieth century that proposals for general ordering of Valencia arose and when one started, the Plan South, despite the political situation in Spain . The Plan South focuses on turning the river bed in a huge landscaped park . In fact , Valencia wanted to give a new feature to its river turning it into the spine of the city . Nowadays when we speak of the Turia it is inevitable to talk of the architects Ricardo Boffil and Santiago Calatrava, though for different reasons . It is this desire to create something new, which led us to study this example we present here. But the objectives of this dissertation go far beyond this, we also propose a new design for a sector of the Turia Gardens - opposite the Torres de Serrano. The introduction of the water element and the timely removal of parapets, are the two key points of the proposal and we aim to provide people with an area where it is possible to enjoy the old river flow.
