Joana Carvalho (PhD) is Associate professor at the Faculty of Sport, University of Porto and former (till 2015) President of Faculty’s Scientific Council. Dr. Carvalho earned her PhD in Sports Sciences at the Faculty of Sport at the University of Porto and since then she is deeply involved on topics concerning promotion of health and healthy lifestyles namely on exercise and aging. She is the leader of the exercise intervention program for community-dwelling and institutionalized older adults: “Mais ativos, Mais Vividos” ("More Active, More Lived"), carried out in Faculty of Sports, University of Porto. Beyond that she is the director of the Mater in Physical activity for Elderly and she is also involved on the PhD in exercise and health. With teaching experience in both pre and postgraduate courses, she has supervised several PhD students as well as MSc students since 2002. Since 2002, she has published, in co-authorship, several manuscripts in national and international peer-reviewed journals. Moreover, she has integrated 13 research projects, 9 at national level, 3 as a principal researcher, and 3 at international level in the area of ​​exercise and health. Among other awards, she received Public Praise in the role of Deputy Director of FADEUP published in the Diário da República, 2nd series, nº 148 of August 1, 2012
