The one who watches, plans, practices and communicates in sport industry is aware that behind the 'records', the sports spectacle, the recreational practice or even informal sports activity are the sports organizations, infrastructure and human resources that have to be managed and maximized. Obviously, sport, like any other social field, has to be planned, organized, led and controlled, even taking into account their specificities.
It is undeniable that in Portugal, at the dawn of the XXI century, the sports management has moved from a phase of growth and affirmation respect to previous decades, to a consolidation phase at various levels. This is a sector of professional growth, it is an area of vocational and college education at various levels, it has a rigorous research and, finally, it has gained credibility in society. Internationally, the sports management is a reality in great expansion in some countries and regions (eg Brazil, Angola and Mozambique) and it is configured as a reality rooted and fully developed in others (eg Europe, US or Australia).
Therefore, to promote the development of sports, in which not only is valued knowledge and empirical practices, it is required the qualification professionals of high quality and specialized training. Consequently, due to the scientific, social and professional recognition of sports management, the existence of Master’s Degree that includes information and training of excellence in sports is fully justified, oriented to graduates in various scientific disciplines and for the continuous training of graduate professionals.
