Objectives
- Understand the main pathophysiological fundamentals in oncology.
- Recognise the risk factors for oncological diseases.
- Recognise the signs and symptoms of oncological diseases.
- Recognise the complications of oncological diseases.
- Understand the main therapeutic principles in oncology.
- Understand the different therapies in oncology.
- Understand the therapeutic strategies associated with the main oncological pathologies.
Learning outcomes and competences
- Critically analyze the pathophysiological basis of oncological diseases, relating cellular, genetic, and molecular mechanisms to the clinical evolution of different pathologies.
- Interpret the main risk factors for oncological diseases in light of scientific evidence, assessing their impact on primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention.
- Recognize and correlate signs and symptoms of oncological pathologies with underlying pathophysiological changes.
- Analyze and discuss the most frequent complications associated with oncological pathologies and their treatments, identifying implications for the safety, comfort, and quality of life of people with cancer.
- Explain and justify the scientific and clinical principles of the main therapeutic modalities in oncology—surgical, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, hormonal, and genetic—recognizing their mechanisms of action and potential adverse effects.
- Compare and critically evaluate different therapeutic strategies, weighing indications, contraindications, and expected outcomes, in order to contribute to interdisciplinary clinical decision-making.
- Integrate knowledge about therapeutic strategies and pathophysiology into the planning and implementation of interventions.

Eligibility for exams
Each student is required to attend 75% of the classes scheduled for the course unit.
Students covered by the situations provided for by law, namely those with special status, such as Working Students, are exempt from the attendance requirements mentioned above.
Calculation formula of final grade
A written test will be taken at the end of the semester to assess knowledge.
It accounts for 100% of the course grade and the minimum passing grade is 9.5.
Students who do not pass the written test but meet the regulatory requirements may request to take the Exam during the designated time slots.
