Resumo (PT): The use of finite elements techniques for the analysis and design of engineering structures is increasing rapidly. Application of the existing structural concrete codes to the new techniques and to non-trivial reinforced concrete shells is very difficult. A general methodology for the design and validation of these structures is proposed here. It includes an attempt to extend the use of existing concrete codes to the design of reinforcement in shells from the elastic internal forces and to the non-linear validation of shells. The design validation of a dome is given as an example.
