Abstract (EN): The advantages of using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools in analyzing the behavior and flow patterns of nonideal reactors are discussed. CFD tools provide a graphical portrait of flow throughout the reservoir/reactor, thus allowing going beyond simply predicting what will come out of the the reactor to predicting all of the properties of interest within the reactor. The use of color in CFD plots allows students to visualize flow behavior, and this visualization of the flow pattern can significantly facilitate and enhance the learning process. Students can also explore the effects of change in the system geometry, system properties, or operations using CFD tools.
