Abstract (EN): Freshwater resources are under increasing threats due to the anthropogenic activities ( related to consumptive and non-consumptive activities). This situation could be exacerbated due to the potential effects of climate change. In this context, the development and implementation of ecological flows are crucial to manage the risk associated with these effects. According with the European Commission Member States should define and apply ecological flows to accomplish Water Framework Directive (WFD) objectives, namely the achievement of good ecological status. Hence, Member States have been looking to integrate ecological flows assessment in their River Basin Management Plans (RBMPs). Spain has already introduced this topic in their RBMPs, although Portugal is in a quite different state. Within the application of WFD, both countries agreed that common plans for the transboundary River Basins should be developed. In this context, within this study the authors: 1) present a literature review of the ecological flows defined for the study area, 2) apply several hydrological methods, used within Spanish RBMPs to define ecological flows. The focus of this study was the Portuguese part of Guadiana River Basin. Moreover, after the selection of a representative ecological flow regime, for some sections, the effect of some climate change scenarios in those ecological flow regimes.
