Abstract (EN): Leachate is produced from landfills and is one important source of pollution containing a variety of hazardous compounds, including heavy metals. However, few studies have focused on dissolved heavy metal exposure despite the associated health risks. The first objective of this work was to determine the concentrations of heavy metals (Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, and Zn) from leachates from different facilities. The second objective was to examine whether exposure to these concentrations pose excess risks to workers according to different legal frameworks. The results indicated that cadmium, copper and zinc levels are safely within the legal limits for drinking water while nickel, lead and chromium exceeded these limits. In conclusion, the acquired data indicated that there is a low risk for heavy metal exposure due to the low concentrations. Nevertheless, it is important to limit exposure as much as possible since levels of heavy metals may vary with time.
