I'm an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Engineering (FEUP) and at the Business School (PBS) of the University of Porto (U.Porto).

I am currently Pro-Director for Digital Transformation at FEUP, and Director of the Tech Leadership and Management program at PBS.

I graduated in Electrical Engineering from FEUP in 1983 and obtained my PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering also from FEUP in 1997. My thesis was on the Modeling, Analysis and Evaluation of the Dependability of Industrial Information Systems and the fieldwork was carried out within the framework of a partnership between FEUP and Renault Automobiles, France.

I started my career at FEUP and Efacec working on industrial electronic power systems, then I moved my interest to industrial control and information systems and currently my main area of interest is the design of management systems for knowledge-based business processes. In this context, I founded the IT company Dreamo – Balanced work systems in 2013.

At FEUP and PBS I lead courses on business process engineering and management in several programs, and I authored several technical and scientifical papers.

More recently, I’ve been working mostly in the service sector, in particular in public services, as I was pro-director for Quality at FEUP from 2005 to 2010, and sub-Director of the Shared Services of U.Porto from 2013 to 2022, where I oversaw the development of the quality management system, and the processes management system.
