Architect and university teacher



He graduated at the Porto School of Fine Arts in 1961, trained in Sweden and Finland during the two following years as a fellow of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

In 1964, he was invited as assistant teacher at ESBAP and in 1979 he sat the public exams for tenured professor and passed, and in 1984 he became a teacher at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto as assistant teacher.

Esboço da Faculdade de Desporto da Universidade do Porto / Sketch of the Faculty of Sports of the University of PortoHe began his professional career working with architect João Andresen and after working for several years with architects José Coutinho, Mário Ramos and José Lencastre, he opened a project office – Cristiano Moreira & Associados, Lda - Arquitectos –, working as general coordinator with the help of experts in the field of structures, electrical engineering, mechanics, hydraulics, acoustics, energy conservation systems, security and landscaping.

He authored several works for private and public entities, for e.g., the head-office of the Police Department of Porto, Pousada de Almeida, the Regional Social Welfare Office in Vila Real, the Municipal Swimming Facilities in Sabrosa, the Tax Department in Bragança, the Aerodrome of Vilar de Luz, in Maia, the research Institute of the University of Aveiro, the building of the Faculty of Sports of the University of Porto inaugurated in 1997, and the Institute of Continuing Education of the University of Porto.

Fotografia da Quinta do Seixo / Photo of Quinta do SeixoCristiano Moreira had a wealth of experience in industrial architecture (car industry, mechanics, textiles and Food industry), especially in winemaking units which he designed for brands such as Aveleda, Borges, Cálem, Ferreirinha, Forrester and Sogrape. Some of his projects deserve to be highlighted, for e.g., Quinta do Seixo (2007), located in Valença do Douro and owned by Sogrape Vinhos since 1987, which earned him the prize "Best of Wine Tourism 2010" in the category "Architecture, parks and Gardens", as well as the Tourism Award of Portugal, in the category "New Private Project ", and the Douro Tourism Award, in 2009.

He wrote the book "Reflexões sobre o método" [Reflections on method] (FBAUP, 1994).

He died in 2012.
