Engineer, mathematician and university teacher



Born in Porto, Paulo Ferreira was the son of Luís José Ferreira.

He graduated in Civil Engineering and Public Works from the Polytechnic Academy of Porto, in 1895 and received his PhD in Mathematics in 1918, at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto.

He was ordinary teacher of the Drawing course at this Faculty, appointed by decree of 3 July 1912, and took up office on 15 August of the same year. He became Full Professor of Drawing and chaired the disciplines of Rigorous Drawing, Machinery and Topographical Drawing. He was also a member of the Department of Mathematics of FCUP and the 3rd Director of the Faculty of Sciences, between 1919 and 1921 (appointed on 8 October 1919). He was temporarily replaced by Professor Ferreira da Silva.

He died at his home in Avenida Brasil, on 18 June 1936. The funeral took place in Prado do Repouso Cemetery.
