Mobility - Study at U.Porto

For more than three decades now, students from all over the world have arrived at U.Porto every year to enjoy the opportunities that the most cosmopolitan Portuguese university has to offer.

As a window to the world, U.Porto offers you the possibility to enjoy an “IN – INcoming” mobility period at our faculties and research centres. These opportunities are offered as part of various initiatives, such as under the famous Erasmus + programme, or through bilateral cooperation agreements which the University organises in the context of international cooperation with institutions worldwide.

This is what you need to know to study at U.Porto...

Online Applications

The application to a mobility period at U.Porto is done exclusively online. All you have to do is follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Applications page.
  2. Fil in the Application Form, according to the Online Application Guide.
  3. Collect the necessary signatures (student and Mobility Coordinator at the university of origin).
    – Since U.Porto implemented the use of digital signature in documents related to these applications, they are only processed electronically (e-mail or USB drive).
  4. Collect the following documents:
    - Transcript of Records / Academic History (mandatory)
    – CV (optional)
    – Motivation and/or Recommendation Letter (optional)
  5. Submit the Application Form together with the documents.

Important: Both the Application Form and the Learning Agreement should be signed by you and the Local and/or Institutional Coordinator of your university of origin.

Please note that submitting an application form online will not guarantee you a place at U.Porto. Foreign mobility students have only been officially accepted once they have received an Acceptance Letter issued by the University of Porto.

Transcript of Records/Academic History

The Transcript of Records is a certificate with a list of all completed subjects, their corresponding ECTS credits, the credits according to a local or national scale, the grades according to a local or national grading scale and the assigned awarded ECTS grades. This document is mandatory.

Please note that submitting an application does not guarantee you a place at U.Porto. Consider yourself IN only once you have received an Acceptance Letter.

If your application was approved, but you can not be present at the beginning of the academic period (here is the Academic Calendar), you have until the end of the first week of class to arrive.

Checklist

If your mobility application is accepted, you just need to make sure that you have all the necessary documentation before leaving for Porto. Do not lose this checklist!

  • Acceptance letter
  • Confirmation of accommodation
  • Identification document (Passport/ID card)
  • Temporary Residence Permit (residence under 1 year) / Residence Permit (residence over 1 year)
  • European Health Insurance Card / Certificate of Entitlement to Healthcare (CDAM/PB4) / Private Insurance
  • Pocket money (cash for current costs)
  • Learning Agreement / Internship contract

Tuition Fees / Rates

Mobility students under the Erasmus+ programme and certain cooperation agreements are exempted from tuition fees and/or payments to the host institution, including fees for registration, examination enrolment, access to laboratories and libraries, etc.

These fees do not include mobility-related expenses, such as school insurance, accommodation, the Portuguese language course, photocopies, laboratory products, etc.
