Research Support - Funding Opportunities

With a view to diversifying and stimulating institutional participation in R&D+i projects, the University is always on the lookout for funding opportunities, whether public or private, at the regional, national, European and international levels.

The University of Porto's scientific community has access to a wide range of funding opportunities to encourage R&D activities and the development of inter-institutional teams and consortia, both nationally and across borders.

Of the many regional, national, European and international funding opportunities available, these are some of the most sought-after funding bodies or programmes among U.Porto’s research community:

U.Porto supports its community in obtaining external funding and provides relevant information through the local support services for existing applications in some of its Organisational Units, and centrally through the Research and Projects Office (SIP), specialised in fundraising for scientific activities.

SIP coordinates with the local services and offices in the Organisational Units and associated Research Institutes to provide information about institutional records in programmes and/or platforms. In addition, SIP provides support in identifying opportunities for funding, preparing and submitting applications, as well as following up on the application, and the post-submission and contracting processes.

SIP is also responsible for the (co)organisation of training and information sessions related to raising funds for research.

Working Group for Research and Fundraising (WG RF)

WG RF embodies the spirit of internal cooperation and sharing, periodically bringing together members of the Vice-Rectory for Research and Innovation, the Research and Projects Office, Organisational Units, Research Units and Research Institutes associated with U.Porto, in order to discussing funding opportunities for research, among other related aspects.

With the aim of intensifying synergies and boosting collaborative initiatives in the research ecosystem, the group debates and streamlines activities related to sharing, discussing and agreeing on topics and initiatives in the field of research, such as raising competitive funding and/or developing strategic and R&D+i projects.
