Faculties - Faculty of Fine Arts

Heir to the world-famous Porto School of Fine Arts, the FBAUP is a center of excellence in artistic education in Portugal, built on a history of almost 250 years.

With its roots in the Aula Pública de Debuxo e Desenho (1780), the Faculty of Fine Arts (FBAUP) is a leading institution in the teaching, research, production and sharing of culture in the areas of art and design as well as their intersections with many other fields.

In the unique spaces of Palacete Braguinha, the cradle of the "Porto School", you can find the legacy of important names in the Portuguese visual arts, such as painters Nadir Afonso, Júlio Resende and Júlio Pomar or sculptor José Rodrigues. A legacy that continues to be honored by the new talents that emerge in the areas of fine arts (sculpture and painting), drawing, illustration or communication design.

Located in the Porto city centre, FBAUP is committed engaging with the local community and actively collaborates with regional and national organisations. Additionally, the Faculty maintains partnerships with dozens of similar European institutions, promoting the exchange of diverse educational and cultural experiences.

But a visit to the "house" of Fine Arts is not complete without a visit to its famous gardens - a real open-air museum! - or the FBAUP Museum, whose "treasures" include, among others, the only work by Leonardo da Vinci to be found in Portugal.
