Intellectual Property Regulation at the University of Porto (RPIUP- "Regulamento do Propriedade Intelectual da Universidade do Porto"), approved by the senate on the 16th of November 2005, which was published in "Diario da Republica" (official Portuguese Gazette), II series, nº 242, on the 20th of December 2005, states, that the University desires to foster the protection and valorisation of Intellectual Property rights from within the organisations nucleus, while at the same time provide researchers direct access to the benefits resulting from this valorisation.

The Spin-off regulation for the University of Porto, approved by the senate on the 12th of March 2008 and published in the "Diario da Republica" (official Portuguese Gazette), II series, nº 79, on the 22nd of April 2008, states, that the University desires to launch and support any businesses that wish to instigate technological and innovative products or services that originate from research, in turn Regulating the way spin-offs are incubated, created and developed.

The regulation of services supplied for the University of Porto, approved by the senate on the 16th of December 1999, states, with the identification of a set of rules, the universities responsibility is to observe all institutional entities and in turn regulate any activities encompassed in "services supplied" by researchers and faculty and any external body.
