After the death of Teixeira Lopes, the Casa-Atelier was converted into a House-Museum, with the original furniture, showcasing several sculptors representing the various styles and themes (monumental, tombs, architecture and religious. It also includes the collection of Decorative Arts produced by the sculptor (furniture, textiles, jewellery, ceramics, glass, etc.), a painting collection, consisting mostly of gifts from artists and friends, among which works by Vieira Portuense, Jean Pilleman, Rodin, Gustavo Doré, Acácio Lino and António Carneiro, and the collection of sculptures by major artists such as Soares dos Reis, Oliveira Ferreira, Joaquim Gonçalves and Sousa Caldas. In the adjacent building, we can find the Diogo de Macedo Galleries (1889-1959), established after the City Council of Gaia signed an agreement with the sculptor’s widow, who donated part of his work and his art collection (modern art and decorative arts) to the city. The galleries were inaugurated in 1975 and refurbished between 2000 and 2004 |
