U.Porto Staff Training Week 2018
“Employability: a challenge to Universities and Companies”
Held from Monday 26th November to Friday 30th November 2018, this is an opportunity to widen and strengthen the cooperation with partner institutions, to share different experiences on career & employability services, to facilitate networking and establish new partnerships. You will also have the opportunity to meet representatives from companies and visit some companies.
Topics and Programme
This staff week is organized by the University of Porto (U.Porto - PT), in partnership with the Portuguese University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) and the Spanish University of Vigo (U.Vigo - ES).
In this joint staff training week, the participants will have the opportunity to exchange experiences, share ideas, good practices and trends among the employability & career subjects.
We will focus our attention on employability skills for students and alumni of the higher institutions and professional development for staff, in the context of supporting students and alumni in their career paths.
The Programme will include the following topics:
- Training for career & employment counsellors
- Work & living in Portugal presentation
- Trends and challenges - Unemployment in the North Region of Portugal
- Data Protection and GDPR: the impact in the Employability & Career Services
- Successful studies and projects presentations
- Round table with companies – discussion about soft skills
- Presentations by HEI participants on a theme of their choice
- Visit to local entrepreneurial areas (companies) and career services
- Visit U.Porto & UTAD campus and discover the city of Porto
It will be possible to get individual appointments in the faculties or other university facilities of your interest.

The training week is mainly addressed to professional working in Employability services and Career Counsellors, but both academic and non-academic staff from our international partner universities are welcome to attend this event.
There is a limited capacity of 20 people and we will try to ensure the most diverse group from different countries. Thus we will not accept more than 2 people from the same institution, if we exceed the maximum number of participants. We will communicate the results by the beginning of October 2018. The staff will only happen with a minimum of 15 participants.
Note: all the activities will be held in English.

The selection results will be sent to each participant shortly after the application deadline – beginning of October 2018.
Each participant that has been selected will have to send the organizer a small description of the practices and challenges that they have to face in their institution. The deadline for this will be announced in the acceptance letter.
Since the number of participants is limited (max 20), we recommend the interested candidates to apply as soon as possible. Please be aware that we’ll give priority to representatives from different institutions. Thus we will not accept more than 2 people from the same institution, if we exceed the maximum number of participants. The staff will only happen with a minimum of 15 participants.
The participation fee is 250¤ which includes:
- Daily lunch;
- Official dinner;
- Visits and transportation to local entrepreneurial areas and career services;
- Visit to U.Porto and UTAD campus and travel and visit to the city of Porto and Vila Real;
- Social programme;
- Certificates of attendance.
Does not include: travel, accommodation and other personal costs.
Participants are required to cover their own travel and living expenses (e.g. accommodation) through the Erasmus funds for staff mobility or otherwise.
Professionals working in higher education institutions can apply for Erasmus Staff Training Mobility grants to take part in this International Staff Training Week. We advise you to contact your home institution’s Erasmus coordinator and ask if Erasmus+ funding is available for staff training. You can also check other possibilities of funding in your institution.

Standing on the old Monte do Olival grove in Gomes Teixeira Square, the building that now houses the Rectorate of the University of Porto was built on the foundations of the College of Orphaned Boys and the Church of Our Lady of Grace (XVII century).
Currently, and in addition to the Rectorate services, here are domiciled to the Old Library Fund, the Natural History and Science Museum. More recently, the building houses the U.Porto Shopand the Art Gallery (Galeria dos Leões).

Travel & Transports
University of Porto is located in the northern region of Portugal, in the city of Porto, which is easy to reach by land or air. The waterway is not currently in use, though there are many River Douro cruises, ideal to enjoy the beauty of the landscape and the navigability of the river.

Metro: Line E (Violet) is an excellent connection between the airport and the city centre.
Aerobus: direct bus from the airport to hotels in the city centre is also available.
Taxi: a ride from airport to the downtown is around 25.00 ¤. Volumes needing to be carried in the luggage compartment are charged 1.50 ¤.
