Resumo (PT): This document addresses key operational and management aspects of quantitative forecasting methods in the retail industry and is organized as follows. Section 2 presents a conceptual framework of forecasting in the retail industry. Section 3 provides the key reasons for forecasting and discusses what should be forecasted. Section 4 outlines common issues concerning data analysis. Section 5 gives an overview of quantitative forecasting methods while Section 6 discusses how to measure forecasting accuracy. Section 7 outlines the process of implementing a forecasting system. Section 8 illustrates the key steps in forecasting via an illustrative example and Section 9 provides a typical case study. Section 10 concludes with a few remarks.
