This Curricular Unit aims to stimulate the doctoral students to attend short advanced courses to obtain expertise considered to be essential in the scope of molecular and cellular biotechnology and on the student dissertation field.
With the participation in the advanced courses, the students will have the opportunity to learn new experimental approaches, to have an in-depth training in known techniques and/or be aided by experts in solving problems and questions associated with the execution/ implementation of the methodology during their experimental work. It is therefore intended to provide a deeper and extended training on specific experimental methodologies and, as such, to develop the scientific skills and autonomy of the students in their area of expertise.
Learning results and Competences
These training courses are design to support the students in their research and to extend their knowledge to other methodologies and techniques performed outside the hosting research group.
Program
In this Curricular Unit, the doctoral students will attend several short advanced courses on the scope of the distinct areas of this PhD programme, that include:
A list of available courses is presented below, from which students must select a number of events in order to fulfill the Curricular Unit requirements. The students may also attend other short advanced courses with appropriate quality and scope.
The registration in these advanced courses is the responsability of the students.

The students may attend to distinct training courses correspondent to a total of 6 ECTS in the first year. The courses will contemplate a series of lectures, with preference being given to the attendance of courses with a hands-on component.
The supervisors will be invited to suggest training courses based on the scientific interests of their PhD students and their training needs.
If the courses are not credited with ECTS the "Docentes responsáveis” of this curricular unit will attribute a number of ECTSs on the basis of the duration and contents of the training.
Depending on the workshop/course.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
1) Registration in each course should be made by the student.
2) When you have concluded one course you should deliver at the end of a semester at the BiotechHealth secretariat (ICBAS) the certificate of participation along with one document with the following information:
Name of the course
Institution/University/Local
Date of participation
ECTS
Certificate/marks obtained
Other information you find relevant
Do not send us original certificates.
3) If the course does not attribute ECTS, you should provide all documentation in hard copy or proper alternative.
Name of the course
Program of the course
Institution/University/Local
Date of participation
Contact hours
Type of sessions
Certificate of attendance
Other information you find relevant
, along with a letter of your supervisor or a member of the BiotechHealth Doctoral Program supporting your participation. You may include any other document that you consider relevant for our consideration.
Do not forget to include your personal information (name and to which UC the course should be considered).
For the courses that do not attribute ECTS and you would like to have our feedback on the number of ECTS that can be attributed prior your participation you should also deliver all the documents above about the course at the secretariat for our evaluation (this will be done in the beginning of every month – please prepare this documentation at least 2 months prior the deadline for registration).
