Objectives
The Doctoral Programme consists of a 1st period of one year, called the "Probationary Year", without fixed curricular units, and the transfer of professional and scientific skills is carried out on a voluntary basis.
This modality allows the student to carry out personalized initial training, through courses, participation in congresses and/or workshops, which can be completed over the course of the 2 semesters. At the same time, the doctoral student must carry out preparatory work (of a laboratory or other type of research) to support the work leading to the doctoral thesis.
Learning outcomes and competences
The aim is for the doctoral student, a doctor or dentist practicing in the area to which their thesis project belongs, to demonstrate active participation in seminars, workshops and congresses in their area of medical specialty, where they are encouraged to present original scientific results.
Instead of attending curricular units, the doctoral student is required to demonstrate clinical activity in their field and to participate in seminars and meetings of their Hospital Clinical Service, as well as national and international workshops and congresses. This postgraduate activity is considered by the Program Direction to be equivalent to attending classic 1st year curricular units in other doctoral programs.

Program
As this is a research programme that potentially involves all areas of clinical medicine, the syllabus of seminars, workshops and congresses in which the student participates varies according to their area of medical specialty.
The probationary year corresponds to the first year of the doctoral programme in which the doctoral student must demonstrate the ability to implement their research project and the first original scientific results. At the end of the probationary year, the doctoral student will write a report on their scientific activity and give an oral presentation, followed by a discussion, before a jury made up of the supervisor and specialists (who form the doctoral student's Follow-up Group) on the scientific topic of the thesis. At the end of the discussion, this jury will decide whether or not the doctoral student will have the definitive status of doctoral student in the Program.
