Application Season for International Students - First Cycle Degree (BSc) and Integrated Master Degrees 2019/2020

CANDIDATURES

1st call: 2th January 2019 to 1th March 2019

2nd call: 2th March 2019 to 13th May 2019

3rd call: 14th May 2019 to 18th July 2019

  1. Definition of International Student

For the purposes of this contest, an international student is a candidate that does not have a Portuguese nationality.

The candidates that are not covered by this definition and therefore cannot apply through this contest are the following:

  1. The national citizens of a Member State of the European Union;
  2. Relatives of Portuguese national citizens or nationals of a Member State of the European Union, irrespective of their nationality;
  3. Those who are not citizens of a Member State of the European Union and not covered by the previous item, legally reside in Portugal for more than two years, uninterruptedly, on 1th January of the year in which they intend to enter in higher education, as well as the children who legally reside with them;
  4. Those who are beneficiaries, on 1th January of the year in which they intend to enter in higher education, of equal status of rights and duties assigned under an international treaty granted between the Portuguese State and the State of which they are nationals;
  5. Those who require the admission in higher education through the special access and entry regimes regulated by Decree-Law no. 393 - A / 99, 2th October, modified by Decree-Law no. 272/2009,1th October.

 

This definition is also not applied to foreigner’s students who are attending a Portuguese higher education institution within the framework of an international mobility program, to carry out a part of a study cycle of a foreign higher education institution, with which the Portuguese institution has established an exchange agreement for that purpose.

 

NOTES:

- When a candidate has two or more nationalities and one of them is Portuguese, only this last is relevant for the purposes of this contest, not being able to apply through this regime.

- If a student with two or more nationalities, in which Portuguese nationality is not included, being a nationality of another Member State of the European Union and of a non-EU State, he may choose one of them.

  1. International Student Status

The international students shall maintain their status until the end of the course in which they are initially enrolled or in transit, with the exception of those who in the meanwhile acquire the nationality of a Member State of the European Union, in which case the international student status is no longer applicable, taking effect in the subsequent academic year to the date of acquisition of nationality.
