Objectives

The course “Sexual Problems: Assessment and Treatment” aims at developing knowledge, skills and expertise related to sexual problems, namely male and female sexual dysfunctions, paraphilic disorders and gender dysphoria. Skills in diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment (namely psychological interventions) of different sexual problems will be developed.

Learning outcomes and competences

Students should be able:

• To identify and characterize the different sexual disorders according to the main systems of classification and diagnosis (e.g. DSM, ICD)
• To know the main findings related to epidemiology, comorbidity and sociodemographic predictors of sexual disorders
• To know the major etiological factors and psychosocial conceptual models of sexual disorders
• To apply skills related to the assessment of sexual disorders
• To know evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions for sexual disorders.

Type of assessment

Students will prepare an individual assignment that reflects the application of the theoretical and practical knowledge acquired during the classes, in a critical way, to a fictitious case of sexual problem (conceptualization, evaluation, intervention).  

In order to be approved in this course, the students should:

1. Obtain a grade of 9,5 or superior,

2. Complete all components of the evaluation.
