- Conduct a comprehensive assessment of alcohol and drug use problems
- Characterize the main theoretical models in drug prevention
- Plan and develop drug prevention and other addictive behaviors strategies
- Identify the basic principles and strategies of the harm reduction model
- Develop motivational interventions in accordance with the change stage of the individual

Students will devellop their knowledge on addictive behaviours, specially regarding drug use and misuse, and on different intervention dimensions: prevention, treatment, reintegration on society and harm reduction. They will also learn the main concepts and theoretical background of addictology and will develop skills in order to work as psychologists of addictive behaviours in the future.
1. Definitions, scope and trends in intervention on addictive behaviours
Description and critical analysis of concepts in addictive behaviours. Global intervention perspectives in addictive behaviours.
2. Assessment of addictive behaviors
Objectives of screening and assessment procedures in the field of drug abuse and addiction. Assessments relevant for understanding relapse. The DSM-IV-TR diagnoses. Screening and assessment tests.
3. Drug prevention
Evolution of drug prevention. Universal, selective and indicated programs. Main drug prevention approaches. Quality criteria for drug prevention programs.
3. The harm reduction model
Basic principles and strategies of harm reduction model. Psychotherapy of harm reduction: Basic principles, objectives and strategies.
4. Treatment approaches
Motivational interviewing. Cognitive therapy and cognitive-behavioural approaches. Brief interventions. The relapsing process and its prevention.
