Objectives
To improve a critical perspective of the psychological knowledge production as a result of participating on a study in a natural setting;
To enhance the understanding of different process phases’ articulation that leads to knowledge construction in Psychology, applying and integrating the previously acquired competences on methodology and statistics.
To improve skills of bibliographical research and review and of oral and written communication of the theoretical concepts and empirical findings revised that permit the formulation and support of viable hypotheses.
To deepen skills of data collection, of assessment of psychometrical qualities of instruments, of data statistical treatment, and of results’ interpretation and discussion;
To evaluate the limits and advantages of the studies, particularly the implications to the interpretation and generalization of results of correlational studies;
To develop skills of working in a team and of problem solution along the process.
Program
-Bibliographical research and review regarding a defined research problem;
-Selection of the most relevant bibliographic references and oral presentation of the main theoretical contents and empirical findings.
-Hypothesis’ formulation and support, identifying corresponding variables.
-Selection of standardized assessment instruments, evaluating their adequacy and psychometrical qualities.
-Selection and contact of participants for the sample, using informed consent.
-Data collection through standardized assessment instruments.
-Data codification, entry, treatment, and analysis, using the most adequate statistical procedures attending to the nature of the data and formulated hypotheses.
-Results Interpretation and discussion and their oral exposition.
-Redaction of a scientific paper regarding the study implemented during the semester.

Teaching methods and learning activities
-A theoretical -practical, mostly practical, methodology is adopted, within a small group context: in each class is divided in 5 work groups. Theoretical lectures are few, restricted to a general initial presentation of the research problem and brief systematizations of previously acquired knowledge, mostly in Statistics and Methodology CU. Teachers orient, discuss and supervise the tasks that are done by the work group during the semester semi-autonomously. The evaluation is continuous. The tasks done by each work group during the semester have a weight of 50% on the final grade: tokens of reading resulting from the bibliographic research and review, oral presentation of bibliographic research, hypotheses’ formulation and support, data collection and statistical treatment, results’ interpretation, discussion and oral presentation. The other 50% are attributed to the classification on the scientific paper which summarizes other steps and may be written individually or in group.
