Summary: |
This Project arises out of the desire and the perceived need to study in depth the way Education is conceived, taught and researched by the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Oporto (FPCE-UP). Such study requires contextualising Education in Oporto in light of other first degrees in Education at other Portuguese and European universities. The overall objective of the this study is to contribute to the visibility, coherence and identity of the scientific knowledge translated, transmitted and produced in Education. In addition, this research aims to analyse not only the efficacy but also the sense and the ways in witch the degree in education is lived at the FPCE-UP. In accord with these objectives, and because of the broad nature of this study, three analytic dimensions, corresponding to three subgroups, have been outlined: (A) The search for, and the reality of, professional insertion into the Labour Market of those graduating with a first degree in Education, (B) The daily life experience of students "living" a first degree in Education and (C) Scientific production in relation to degrees in Education, each one coordinated respectively by the Professors (A) Cristina Rocha, (B) JosÈ Alberto Correia e (C) AmÈlia Lopes.
(A) Taking as a starting point the hypothesis that there is no stable profile, nor previously defined trajectory, with regard to the relationship between students graduating in Education and insertion into the labour market, one proposes to research how the search for the insertion is shaped and projected in the minds of those concluding the first degree in Education at FPCE-UP. One also proposes to characterize the way this degree in Education conceives socio-professional insertion as well as overall entry into the world of work. This should allow one to make visible and to identify important aspects of the degree in Education and the way it mobilises students for that which lies beyond the degree.

(B) It is important to understand the nature of the various relational and experiential spaces which mobilize students within the degree in Education both with regard to their socio-professional characteristics as well as in the ways they construct and appropriate the language specific to the field of Education. Basically, this is a question of analysing the ways students "live" the degree in Education, the systems of interpersonal relationships and the modalities through which they become "members" of the university as an institution and, in particular, this field of knowledge.
(C) One also aims to know what supply of languages is available for teachers and researchers through the analyses of form (structure of texts), content (themes and methodologies in themselves) and dynamic (personal and groups publications) of the scientific production of those involved in Education degree at the FPCE-UP.
Methodologically, one foresees the use of surveys by interview and questionnaire (with the objective of characterising graduates with regard to their professional dimension which will allow one to map out i] their relationship to teachers and members of the Centre for Educational Research and Intervention [CIIE], ii] their collaboration with other institutions [both national and international] and iii] their affinities to particular fields of knowledge), case studies based on biographical analysis and content analyses of scientific production teachers and researchers, with the aim of placing such production in historical, methodological and epistemological contexts. |
