Objectives

The curricular unit “Sexual violence and compulsivity” is aimed at teaching students about the main conceptualizing and intervention models of sexual offending behavior, including different specific groups (e.g., adult and juvenile sexual offenders). The topic of sexual compulsivity and its etiologic pathways will also be considered, along with the intersection with sexual violence. Students will also learn about the different contexts of sexual victimization and ongoing social and political strategies aimed at preventing sexual violence.

Learning outcomes and competences

Students will be expected to:

- Identify sexual offenders´ typologies, dynamics, processes and contexts of sexual victimization

- Understand the biopsychosocial factors impacting sexual offending behavior and its practical implications

- Critically analyze sexual compulsivity etiological pathways, its relationship with the field of sexology and the dynamics behind sexual violence

2.Sexual compulsivity: definition and conceptual approaches; implications on the dynamics behind sexual violence.

Students should prepare an individual essay with a systematic literature review about one of the topics covered in the course and actively participate in the classes

In order to be approved in this course, the students should:

1. Obtain a grade of 9,5 or superior

2. Complete all components of the evaluation
