Objectives
To afford students knowledge about the theory of personality and on the theory of psychological intervention, which are characteristic both of psychoanalysis and of humanistic psychology, in order to prepare them for their future activity as psychologists.
The subject is divided into theoretical and theoretical-practical lessons.
Program
Subject-matter of this discipline will be the theories of personality and psychological intervention of two great streams of modern psychology (psychoanalysis and humanism). The programme will consist of two items:
1st) psychoanalytical notion of personality and psychological intervention;
2nd) humanistic notion of personality and psychological intervention.
Therefore the doctrines of the two mentioned schools of thought will be studied, beginning with psychoanalysis and then dealing with rogerism, considering, for each of them, the respective historical and scientific context, basic postulates, the theory of personality, the technique of psychological intervention, etc., presenting not only Freud’s and Rogers’ point of view, concerning the mentioned issues, but also other authors’ from both schools. The discussion of those streams will vary according to their relevance.
