Teresa Silva Dias
Teresa Silva Dias is an Assistant Researcher at the University of Porto, FPCEUP, CIIE. Her research program is funded by the FCT (Portuguese Foundation of Science and Technology) under the Contract Programme Competition Stimulus Employment Science (CEEC) individual 2020, 3rd edition (ref. 2020.02610.CEECIND).
Currently, she coordinates the Sports, Education and Communities Observatory (ODEC, https://odec.fpce.up.pt/), which is hosted by the Centre for Educational Research and Intervention (CIIE). Framed in the work developed at the Observatory (ODEC), she is PI of the Play4life Project: Young Athletes as Activists in Sport (CIIE, support for investigation projects).
She has been an external consultant for the European Anti-Poverty Network (EAPN, Portugal) in developing a national study with children.
She is a Psychologist with an initial degree (since 1995) and has a PhD. in Educational Sciences (since 2013). As a Psychologist, she is recognised by OPP (Ordem dos Psicólogos Portugueses) as a specialist in Education and Development Psychology and Clinical Psychology. She had an advanced specialization in Community Psychology, Special Needs and Early Intervention (by OPP).
During her professional career, she had the opportunity to integrate different labor contexts (communities and populations at risk of social exclusion and minorities, NGOs, schools and sports associations) which allowed her to deepen her knowledge in different areas.
She was involved in research between 2008 and 2013 when she returned to the academy and finished her PhD.
Since 2017 her involvement in research has gained another meaning and becomes more active when she dedicates herself exclusively to her academic career. Her research focuses on citizenship education and children and adolescent civic and political participation, particularly the links between contexts of education (e.g. schools and sports organizations) as societal microsystems and participatory citizenship contexts, and children and young people's civic and political development.
Integrating her domains of research, she has been involved in European research projects funded by the European Commission's Erasmus + Program. She is starting to make significant contributions to citizenship education and children's civic and political participation by publishing books and articles as the first author in top-tier journals, such as the Journal of Moral Education, Educational & Child Psychology and Education and Training. She has presented on the subject at several international conferences in Europe.
At FPCE UP, FADE UP, FC UP and ESE IPP, she has lectured several curricular units in the initial training and the master courses. She has an extensive experience in the guidance of academic and professional internships and thesis orientation for master's and doctoral degrees. She has been integrated into Jury in public PhD, Qualification and Master's Exams.
Also, she has been integrated into teams (as a member of the team or as coordinator) in the development of Community Intervention Projects (most of them with national funds) and the Organization of Training, Scientific and Sports Events.
Teresa Silva Dias is a full Center for Research and Intervention in Education (CIIE) member. Also, she is a Member of some relevant National and International Societies in her field of research: Portuguese Society of Education Sciences (SPCE), Portuguese Society of Sport Psychology (SPPD), European Education Research Association (EERA), European Physical Education Association (EUPEA); European College of Sport Science (ECSS) and SPORT & CITIZENSHIP - European "think tank".
