Objectives

The main goal of this curricular unit is the acquisition of knowledge and training essential to prepare and interpretate the results obtained in the various models used to study the cardiac and smooth muscle function in rat and mouse models.

Learning outcomes and competences

Students are expect to acquire:

- skills for the setting up and monitoring of isolated cells or muscle preparations in organ baths.

- knowledge for the  interpretation of cardiac and smooth muscle function through the use of experimental models of isolated tissue a cells from rat and mouse.

Evaluation of cardiac and smooth muscle function in animal models of rat and mouse:

(i) Evaluation of the cardiac muscle function in isolated multicellular preparations;
(ii) Evaluation af cardiac muscle function in isolated cardiomyocytes;
(iii) Evaluation of isolated smooth muscle.
