This curricular unit will allow the knowledge to set up and to interpret the several models of cardiac and vascular smooth muscle function evaluation in vitro.

Learning outcomes and competences

Students are expect to acquire:

- skills for the setting up and monitoring of isolated cells or muscle preparations in organ baths and in systems of cardiac and smooth muscle function evaluation.

- knowledge for the  interpretation of cardiac and smooth muscle function through the use of experimental models of isolated tissue a cells from rat and mouse.

Working method



Evaluation of cardiac and smooth muscle function in animal models of rat and mouse:

i) Evaluation of the cardiac muscle function in isolated multicellular preparations;
(ii) Evaluation af cardiac muscle function in isolated cardiomyocytes;
(iii) Evaluation of isolated smooth muscle.
