Teaching language



1.Learning of the examination and understanding of the clinical picture of patients with Central Nervous disorders leading to the recognition the neurological syndromes that, together with clinical history, provides skills for an appropriate orientation of patients.
2.Provide skill in diagnose and treatment of frequent diseases in the general population based on international guidelines.
3.Provide skill in diagnose and treatment of diseases, that thoughts not frequent, need urgent treatment.


Lectures: Review of signs and symptoms of the nervous system diseases. Syndrome diagnosis: Hemispheric, Brainstem, Cranial nerves Spinal cord. Movement disorders (with special reference to Parkinson’s disease and essential tremor), Neuromuscular disorders (electromyography, most important presentations of neuromuscular disorders with special reference to acute inflammatory polyneuropathy, miastenia gravis and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), Coma, delirium, dementia. Headaches Epilepsy (special reference to electroencephalography and evoked potentials),Multiple sclerosis (special reference to lumbar puncture). Elevated intracranial pressure and brain tumours. Neurosurgical techniques and radiological intervention. Seminars: Cerebrovascular disorders, Spine disorders, Craniocerebral trauma.

Teaching methods and learning activities

3 weeks (15 days with an average of 4 hours a day) distributed as follows: lectures and seminar (20 hours); theoretical-practical and practical sessions in the ward (40 hours); out-clinic consultation and emergency service (optional).

Eligibility for exams

Continuous assessment based on a list of tasks to be performed by students. Theoretical test at the end of each block. Oral exam is optional and the final classification is the average of the written and oral exam.
