Objectives

Basic Histology and Embryology aims at providing knowledge about the normal structure, both microscopic and submicroscopic, of the main tissues composing biological organisms, as well as about the embryological and post-natal development of the main organs and systems.
The morphology should be perceived as the structural basis of physiology, not only to increase the motivation for the study of the form, but, more importantly, also to provide a better understanding of how morphological changes can lead to functional changes and vice-versa.

Epithelial Tissues; Soft Conjunctive Tissues; Hard Conjunctive tissues; Blood and Haematopoiesis; Lymphocytes and immunity; Muscular Tissue; Nervous Tissue; General Embryology; Nervous System Embryology; Embryology of the Skull and Face; Embryology of the Digestive System; Eye and Ear Embryology; Embryology of the Cardiovascular System; Embryology of the urogenital system.

Distributed evaluation with final exam

Eligibility for exams

T - Theoretical exam - 60 multiple answer questions. Minimum classification to pass: 9/20.
P - Practical assessment - 15 questions relating identification of microscopic structures; a practical assessment will precede the respective theoretical exam. Minimum classification to pass: 9/20.
Final Classification: Average = 3T + P

Approval: minimum classification to pass: 10/20.
