Curriculum Synthesis ·

- Medical career started in 1973 (year of "clinical practice"), followed by the “ policlinic“ Internship at Hospital St. António, Porto, interspersed with the "medical service to the periphery" and the compulsory military service.
- After the national application, I attended the internship of plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, at Hospital S. João, Porto, in 1978, followed by a clinical post-graduation practice, in Paris, at the Hôpital Lariboisière. 
- Attaché des Hôpitaux, hired by the Service de Chirurgie Plastique, Reconstructive et Esthétique at the Centre Hospitalier et Universitaire de Bordeaux, were in 1982, became specialist in Microchirurgie, by the University of Bordeaux, France.
-In 1988, underwent two National public applications to became head of plastic surgery and head of maxillofacial surgery.
- Underwent two National public competitions to be hired initially as a specialist, and later on, in 1992, head of the Plastic Surgery Board Service, at H. S. João, Porto.
 - Appointed as director of the Plastic, Reconstructive, Aesthetic, MaxiloFacial Surgery and Burns Department, in the H.S. João (1996 to 2009), which he expanded with the two new units: Maxillofacial Surgery and Burns, and, among others improvements, increased substantially the number of beds, operative times and staff. 
- The academic career begins with public examinations, Ph.D. (1991) and Aggregation (1997), followed by national competitions to Auxiliary Teacher (1992), Associate (1995), and Full Professor (1 998).
- Appointed, by the Scientific Council of FMUP director of the Experimental Surgery Service (1997 to 2018), director, of the Master of Orthognathic  Surgery and Orthodontics and other postgraduate courses since 2003,  Coordinator of different curricular units (2005 to 2018) – five of which he implemented – and member of the Scientific Council and Commission for evaluating equivalences of the Doctoral program in Medicine (2007 to 2018).
- Elected Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of Oporto University, two mandates, from 2001 to 2007, director of the Department of Surgery and Physiology (2006 to 2018), member of the Coordinating Committee of the Scientific Council (2000 to 2010), and member of the Advisory Board (2011 to 2018).
- Elected member of the Senate and Assembly in the Oporto University (2001 to 2007) and later on of the General Council of the Foundation of the University of Porto, from 2009 to 2017 – integrating the Committee on Research and Internationalization as well as the Commissions for the election of the Rectors (2010 and 2014), and presiding the Governance Committee (2014 to 2017) and the Commission for the election of the new General Council (2017) –.
- Elected member of the Directors board of the Biomechanics Laboratory of the University of Porto, since 2013.
- Administrator and clinic director in a private Hospital (HPBN), affiliated with FMUP (2008 to 2012).
- Participation in hundreds of Juries of national competitions, in all degrees of the hospital and academic careers, some of which he presided.
- Responsible for the training of several specialists in plastic surgery and other medical specialties.
- Several Ph.D. and Master's students guided in different scientific areas. 
- Researcher in multiple projects, author of 220 international publications, and hundreds of communications, conferences, videos, book chapters, and posters. 
- Founder of the first National Journal of Surgery and five medical scientific societies. Member of 28 national and international scientific associations, some of which he presided. Awarded several times.  
- Emeritus Professor at the University of Porto, since 2019.
-Merit Medal of the Portuguese National Medical Council(2019).
- Clinical activity developed at public and private hospitals, having participated as a surgeon in more than 30 000 interventions, in several anatomical regions and in different areas: aesthetic, congenital, oncologic, and traumatic surgery. He introduced national and international new techniques and procedures in its specialty.
