The primary objective of the Master's Degree in Psychiatry and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy is the training of professionals who already have a pre-Bologna University degree or an integrated Master degree to obtain a specialization of an academic nature using the research/innovation activity and, at the same time, to deepen professional skills; to promote the acquisition of specific knowledge and skills in the areas of Psychiatry and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy in theoretical, clinical and research terms.
The objectives of this second cycle are fully adjusted to the objectives of FMUP - which promotes excellence in teaching (medical training), research and development and the transformation of knowledge into value.
Thus, and considering the context of Mental Health Care in Portugal in recent years, the current study cycle is the result of the coupling between the formative and research matrix of FMUP with the extensive pedagogical and scientific activity of the faculty of the Department of Clinical and Neuroscience Mental Health; which guarantees the suitability and compatibility of FMUP's educational, scientific and cultural project to the objectives defined for this study cycle.
The progressive training of Masters in Psychiatry and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy arising from the creation of this study cycle will build the foundations that can generate and disseminate research in this area of knowledge, allowing to reinforce the quality of the Mental Health technicians' offer in the organizations / institutions that already integrate or will integrate.
a) Holders of a Medical degree or equivalent, by Portuguese Universities;
b) Holders of a Medical degree or legal equivalent, in a "Psychiatry" or "Children and Adolescent Psychiatry” residency training.
c) Holders of an academic degree or equivalent in other areas of health sciences;
d) Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum, recognized as relevant by the adequate institutional scientific commission, to be admitted to the study cycle.
The SC provides students with:
a) knowledge about research methodology and its adequacy to the psychiatric and psychotherapeutic clinic;
b) familiarization with the most common signs and symptoms that characterize psychopathological syndromes; c) acquisition of knowledge about the main conceptual tendencies in psychiatry , psychosomatic medicine and human sexuality;
d) reflection on current problems and issues of society (Mental Health and Anthropology) and their translation and impact on human behavior;
e) therapeutic interventions (particularly psychotherapies) in mental pathology.
The teaching methodology of this SC is fundamentally based on seminars with active student participation (including not only assiduity, but also their participation in the discussion and projects elaboration). The profile of students that are intended to de captured / trained in this SC are the holders of a medical degree or a legal equivalent one.
