ELIGIBILITY
Applicants will be admitted if holding an Integrated Master Degree in one of the following areas: Medicine, or in the field of Health and Biological Sciences, Physics, Mathematics or Engineering.
Objectives
The Master Degree Course in Cardiovascular Pathophysiology aims to endow students with an advanced training in this field of knowledge. The promotion of the scientific research in an area with such an importance taking into account its predominance, incidence, morbidity and mortality is also one of our objectives. Cardiovascular diseases are, in fact, the first cause of death in Portugal and throughout the western world, being forecasted to continue that way in the upcoming decades.

COMPETENCES TO BE ACQUIRED
Students are expected to be aware of the main issues which are still to be solved in the cardiovascular area. The research projects carried out by the students aim therefore to give some answers to those problems, thus instigating research and translation:
Hence, the skills to be developed by the students are the following:
- A systematic understanding in the domain of Cardiovascular Pathophysiology, namely its cellular and molecular mechanisms;
- A high-standard training in a demanding research environment, although duly supported and oriented;
- The training in advanced laboratory methods and techniques of scientific analysis and research;
- The development of skills to research and understand complex scientific information;
- The development of skills to design, project, adapt and carry out a research project taking into account all the requirements posed by the academic standards;
- The development of skills to create an original research project which contributes to the development of the area and which can be published on Portuguese and international publications indexed to ISI – Web of Science;
- The development of skills to interact with multidisciplinary research teams in the identification and formulation of relevant scientific problems;
- The capacity to analyse and assess scientific papers in the different areas of Cardiovascular Pathophysiology;
- The development of skills to present ideas and scientific results to specialized and non-specialized audiences;
