Decision making in Health, either made by doctors or other professionals, or even by managers or patients, is becoming more dependent of the available information of a great variety of factors – biological, clinical, social or economical.
However, the collection, the production and the evaluation of that information demands a specific knowledge of scientific methodologies and specific themes, which were developed in the last few years, for example: design and validation of questionnaires and health measurement scales; techniques for the evaluation of diagnostic testing and therapeutic interventions; systematic reviews and meta-analysis; sampling methods and data analysis methods in clinical studies and health services.

Areas of specialization:

- Evaluation of Health Technologies :
It aims to study technologies, i.e. – techniques, medicines, equipment or information systems – used by health professional in care-giving. The aim of the assessment of health technologies is to give an answer to questions related to the characteristics of the mentioned technologies – safety, efficiency, applicability, indications, costs, costs-effectiveness and social, ethical and economic consequences of their use.

- Research in Health Services:
It is seen as the study of the health services in the productive, organizational and distributive aspects and the impact of patients’ health status. It aims to approach the necessary methods and knowledge to the study of questions related to the assessment of quality of the services provided, patient and professionals’ satisfaction, access to health care and economical aspect of equity in care-giving and distribution of resources. .

- Clinical Research
The patient is the object and it aims to answer to questions related to clinical medicine, contributing to decision making and knowledge in the field of Health. The questions approached in this area are mainly connected to the study of diagnosis, treatment, prognosis and disease etiology and study of frequency of phenomenon and associated entities.
