|Mission:||The Department of Genetics, Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto is engaged in pre-graduate (Master Degree in Medicine and Nutritional Sciences) and postgraduate education (Professional internships or completion of bachelor, master degrees, doctorates and formation of internal expertise), diagnosis and research.
The Department of Genetics provides services to the community directly through the cytogenetics and molecular genetics laboratories and indirectly in the collaboration with the Hospital S. João. Some of the tests performed in the Molecular Genetics laboratory are not performed in other national laboratories. The implementation of molecular diagnostic techniques for diseases where there is no provision of diagnosis in Portugal is a part of the strategies of the Department.
The Department of Genetics has been actively involved in several research projects, resulting in various scientific publications in peer reviewed international journals.
The Department of Genetics seeks to maintain the requirement of a constant high standard of teaching, technical and scientific quality.
|Description:||The Department of Genetics of the Faculty of Medicine of Porto University consists of nine PhD elements, of which six are career teachers or under functional integration. Integrates 5 doctors and 17 non-medical elements and develops its activities in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, diagnosis and research.
