Objectives
To identify, explore and analyze the cultural, social, economic and political dimensions of health and medicine.
Learning outcomes and competences
- To understand the impact of theoretical, political, economic and sociocultural transformations in the definitions of health, illness and health care.
- To recognize, evaluate and reflect on the different social determinants of health and identify different ways of measuring socioeconomic position and social inequality.
- To understand the concepts of citizen science and person-centered approaches, and how they contribute to more relevant scientific knowledge and treatments for society."
- To explore the relationship between social vulnerability and public health, with particular emphasis on mental health and healthy aging.
- To develop a critical stance on cultural and stigma-related issues in society and understand how they influence the health of populations, especially the most vulnerable.

Calculation formula of final grade
The evaluation process considers the preparation of an individual work (50%) and an oral presentation in a group (45%). 5% is reserved for class participation/attendance.
