PhD in Metabolism - Clinical and Experimental

The Doctoral Programme in Metabolism - Clinical and Experimental of the University of Porto is a tailor-made programme which enables students from multiple backgrounds to acquire the basic theoretical and practical skills to develop a Doctoral thesis in the various fields of metabolism and metabolic disorders.
During the first year, the students attend a short core curriculum covering the fundamentals of metabolism, followed by a variery of optional units encompassing the main research topics in metabolism and clinical biochemistry at the molecular, cellular and systems level, the various methodologies available including lab sessions, presentations and tutorials.
In addition, the students are given the possibility of attending several scientific seminars and participating in journal clubs.
Such a broad, multidisciplinary approach is guaranteed by the collaboration of various first line researach units inside and outside the country and large high profile faculty from the Medical, Pharmacy, Science and Engineering Schools of UP and the Associate Laboratory IBMC/INEB.
Students are counseled by a tutor during the four year duration of the programme. The programme provides access to a rich naional and international research environment.
