The PhD Programme in Public Health aims to prepare individuals for research in specific Public Health areas, providing students with skills in design, methods and dissemination of health research. Also, graduates are expected to be able to apply these skills in different contexts, namely in the study of etiological factors, the analysis and management of problems of national and international health and in the planning and evaluation of health interventions. The programme is aimed at graduates or masters in medicine and other areas of health sciences, social sciences and mathematics and comprises a team of highly qualified faculty as well as other administrative research resources, and facilities, including those available at the Institute of Public Health, that contribute to the quality of the program. During the first year, the students haveasetofcore modules andaset ofelectivemodules that also include seminars, participation in journal clubs and a curricular unit to define the PhD thesis project. The students also have the opportunity to attend modules in international reference institutions. The Programme has the collaboration of several international partners and has close relations with European networks for research and training in Public Health, namely as a member of ASPHER (The Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region).

ELIGIBILITY
Are admitted to the application for the PhD in Public Health:
a) Holders of a Bachelor’s degree or legal equivalent degree. The Cycle of Studies may also accept holders of a foreign higher academic degree, after approval from the scientific committee.
b) Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum which demonstrates that the candidate has the skills to carry out this cycle of studies, approved by the Scientific Committee.
