The primary objective of the Master of Primary Health Care is the formation of professionals who already have a a 1st cycle formation allowing to obtain an academic specialization resorting to activity research / innovation and simultaneously deepening professional skills, in other words, acquiring specific knowledge and skills in the areas of PHC, in theoretical terms and clinical research.
The objectives of this second cycle are fully adjusted to FMUP goals - promoting excellence in teaching (medical training), research and development activities and the transformation of knowledge into value.
Thus, and given the reformulation of the context of Primary Health Care in Portugal in recent years, this cycle of studies stems from the coupling between the FMUP’s training and research matrix with the extensive educational and scientific activities of the Department of Social Sciences and Health’s professors; which ensures the suitability and compatibility of the FMUP’s educational, scientific and cultural project with the defined objectives for this study cycle.The progressive formation of PHC Masters that will arise from the creation of this cycle of studies will build the foundations that can generate and disseminate research in this area of knowledge, allowing to strengthen the quality of provision of PHC in organizations / institutions that are already part of it or that will integrate it.
The general objectives of the 2nd Cycle of Studies in Primary Health Care are:
a) To enable for a systematic understanding in the scientific field of Primary Health Care;
b) To develop skills and abilities that enable the implementation of appropriate methodologies for specific investigation of Primary Health Care and Family Medicine;
c) To promote the interconnection of national Primary Health Care with international academic institutions of high reputation;
d) To promote scientific and academic visibility of the Primary Health Care through the publication of scientific articles in international scientific indexed journals;
e) To develop skills, experience and knowledge in the most innovative areas of the Primary Health Care (integration of new information and communication technologies, new decision models and integration of patients' values, new ethical challenges in clinical practice).
