Overview: This course intends to give basic theoretical and practical knowledge on animal cell culture. Theoretical knowledge on cell culture, its characteristics, culture conditions (environment, laboratory, equipment), the biology of cells in culture, techniques for cell culture and basic operations with cells in culture (work in as asseptic environment, maintenance and propagation of cultures) will be given. Also, basic indispensable knowledge in relation to cell culture will be transmitted: how to maintain a functional cell culture lab, how to solve some of the most frequently found troubleshooting problems in a cell culture lab, etc. Students will be also able to train some technical gestures: preparation of cell culture medium, maintenance and propagation of cells in culture, observation of cell at the microscope, cell counting, analysis of cell viability, quantification of cell protein.
