In the theoretical component, the aim is to provide students with the essential foundational knowledge:
Enabling them to evaluate the functional and orthopedic conditions that contribute to the functional balance of the stomatognathic system, as well as to identify and diagnose signs of existing pathology;
Enabling them to perform an adequate differential diagnosis regarding orofacial pain, temporomandibular disorders, bruxism, and dental sleep medicine;
Enabling them to establish an appropriate therapeutic plan, in an individualized and multifactorial manner, as well as to design a long-term follow-up protocol.
In the practical component, the aim is to prepare students for the correct performance of the specific clinical examination of the stomatognathic system, as well as to train them in the proper mounting of models on a semi-adjustable articulator.
Students should acquire the competencies to:
Assess and identify the functional and orthopedic balance factors of the stomatognathic system;
Identify and understand risk factors and/or concomitant pathologies that may affect the stomatognathic system, contributing to an adequate differential diagnosis;
Carry out a medical history and perform a functional and occlusal clinical examination correctly and accurately;
Perform a facebow record and transfer it for the mounting of models on a semi-adjustable articulator;
Establish an individualized therapeutic plan according to each clinical situation.

Theoretical classes: Theoretical presentation of the program content, supported by materials made available on Moodle.
Theoretical-practical classes: Execution of the tasks outlined in the previously provided guides within a pre-clinical setting, complemented by theoretical-practical lectures on each program topic; conduction of seminars for the presentation of final reports.

Theoretical classes
Attendance in theoretical classes is not mandatory.
Theoretical-practical classes
Students must attend a minimum of 75% of the classes in order to obtain course attendance.
A tolerance of 10 minutes is allowed at the beginning of each theoretical-practical class, after which the absence will be recorded.
Theoretical-practical component (TP):
Attendance: 20% (5% in cases where tests and special assignments are conducted)
Report: 20% (15% in cases where tests and special assignments are conducted)
Total: 40%
Theoretical component (T):
Final exam: 60%
(Minimum grade of 9.5 required in the final exam)
Tests and special assignments (when conducted): 20%
Overall requirements:
To pass the curricular unit, the student must achieve an overall average grade (combined T and TP components) higher than 9.5.
If the student obtains a grade lower than 9.5, this implies failure in continuous assessment, and the student will be required to take the resit examination.
Assessment of the theoretical component:
Assessment of the theoretical-practical component:
*20% – Tests and special assignments (when conducted)
Students with the status of TE, DA, etc., are not required to attend classes with mandatory attendance. However, they should, whenever possible, participate in the theoretical-practical classes and submit a final report on the covered content.
