Objectives
The course aims to develop skills in the diagnosis, treatment plan and therapeutic approach of the various pathologies that affect the orofacial region, in particular the oral mucous membrane, the alveolar bone, and the salivary glands. Specifically, it is intended to:
- promote the acquisition of knowledge related to the development, structure and function of the different structures of the orofacial region, under physiological and pathological conditions;
- promote the acquisition of knowledge about the pathologies that affect the orofacial region, detailing their etiology and pathogenesis;
- develop clinical skills and competences for clinical examination, analysis of auxiliary diagnostic tests, differential diagnosis and establishment of a definitive diagnosis;
- develop therapeutic intervention skills on the pathologies that affect the orofacial region.
Learning outcomes and competences
- Skills to carry out a detailed clinical history, framed within the scope of Oral Pathology, as well as intraoral and extraoral clinical examination.
- Ability to perform the summary examination of the XII pairs of cranial nerves.
- Skills for performing biopsies and their interpretation, as well as different complementary diagnostic tests, within the scope of differential diagnosis in Oral Pathology.
- Skills for pharmacological prescription in the therapeutic approach in Oral Pathology.
- Skills in the diagnosis and treatment of infectious and inflammatory pathology of the salivary glands, as well as salivary gland neoplasms. Know how to interpret salivary changes in the flow and composition of saliva and crevicular fluid.
- Skills for the diagnosis and treatment of different pathologies of the oral mucosa, including infectious pathologies.
- Skills for the diagnosis and treatment of pulp and periapical pathologies.
