Objectives
- Acquisition of knowledge related to the composition, structure, function and metabolism of nucleic acids;
- Acquisition of theoretical skills on molecular mechanisms related to the maintenance, expression and transmission of genetic information;
- Recognition of the molecular complexity underlying all cells;
- Understanding the mechanisms related to the characteristics of different cell types;
- Knowledge of the main molecular biology techniques related to the identification, manipulation and analysis of nucleic acids;
- Recognition of the importance of different molecular biology techniques in the context of health sciences, particularly their importance in terms of molecular diagnosis;
- Recognition of the importance of molecular biology in scientific research.
Learning outcomes and competences
From the theoretical part of the course, students are expected to understand the molecular mechanisms involved in the genetic and biological organization necessary for the correct establishment of the identity of organisms.
On the theoretical-practical part, students are expected to acquire knowledge about Molecular Biology and Recombinant DNA techniques, and their applicability in Dentistry.
From the practical part, students are expected to acquire knowledge of molecular biology techniques, which allow them to purify genomic and plasmid DNA, analyze it, manipulate it and introduce plasmid DNA into bacteria, and design primers for PCR and execute it.

Eligibility for exams
Attendance to 3/4 of all the practical classes and presentation of a paper.
It is ompulsry to bring and use a laboratory coat in the pratical classes.
Students who attended the practical classes in the two previous academic years may eventually be exempt from attending practical classes in the current academic year. However, they must contact the responsible teacher to confirm the exemption.
Calculation formula of final grade
TThe final classification will be 90% final exam and 10% ofthe paper presntation.
The written final exam will include both the theoretical, teoretical-pratical and the practical parts.
The exam will have 80% questions related to the theoretical and theoretical part, and 20% related to the practical part.
These components will be assessed in the final exam in which the questions are distributed according to the indicated assessment percentages.
Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)
Students who are exempt from attending practical classes due to student-worker status, or any other status provided by law, must contact the director at the beginning of the semester.
