Objectives
Dentists have an obligation to contribute to the global health promotion of their patients and to be able to collaborate with other health professionals, in order to harmoniously integrate all the healthcare provided.
They need to be able to deal with a medical emergency in a dental office.
The objectives of this Course Unit are the acquisition of knowledge:
1. In the interpretation of diagnostic tests;
2. In pathophysiology and pathology management in the areas of nephrology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, infectiology, clinical hematology, neurology, oncology, obstetrics, immunology and transplantation, mental health and geriatrics, and their interactions with dentistry;
3. In managing medical emergencies.
Learning outcomes and competences
The skills to be acquired in this Course Unit are:
1. The development of a safe working environment, based on risk assessment and promotion of the safety care of patients;
2. The ability to collect and record the patient's complete clinical history, particularly the medical components, perform a physical examination, interpret the data and to perform a clinical investigation;
3. The ability to individualize treatment according to the age, general condition and comorbidities of its users;
4. Understanding the relevance of the pathologies addressed, the implications in dentistry of the existence of systemic disease and its treatments;
5. The ability to respond to a medical emergency in clinical practice.

Eligibility for exams
To obtain attendance, it is necessary to attend at least 75% of the scheduled classes
Calculation formula of final grade
- Continuous assessment (25% of final assessment)
- Portfolio (25% of the final evaluation)
- Final exam: Multiple choice test - 60 questions for 90 minutes (50% of the final evaluation) - Minimum grade 9.5 (0-20)
Students with student worker status, the final assessment will be calculated as follows:
