Objectives
The subject of Dental Biomaterials should provide to the pupil these indispensable skills: - To learn the basic and elementary principles of the Biomaterials Science. - To know the definitions and terminology relative to metals, ceramics, polymers and its combinations. - To learn the scientific bases to select, to manipulate and to apply the dental materials. - To learn, through specific exercises, the correct appliance of each dental material.
Learning outcomes and competences
When completing the course of Biomaterials the pupil must be qualified: - To select and to manipulate the dental materials. - To evaluate the biomaterials performance based in the scientific knowledge of its composition, structure and properties - To know the biomaterials limitations and the characteristics that can cause alterations when in service. - To recognize and to understand the reasons for dental materials clinical failure.

Teaching methods and learning activities
The course is organized in theoretical and practical lessons. In the theoretical lessons, bibliography of base for each subject of the program is indicated and in the practical lessons complementary bibliography is also indicated, specifying the pages to consult of the cited books and Journals. This bibliography intends to be only one contribution for a small library of references, destined not only to the immediate preparation of the subject, as for eventual later consultation.
