Objectives

The general goals of the UC Anatomy of head, face and neck of the 11th Specialization Course in Orthodontics are:

- To present the general aspects of the general organization of the bone head;

- To expose the anatomy of the development of the head and neck;

- To present the correlation between the normal anatomic development and the anatomic modifications and congenic alterations;

- To describe and explain anatomic aspects of the anatomic superficial regions of the head and neck;

- To describe and explain anatomic aspects of the anatomic deep regions of the face;

- To describe and explain anatomic aspects of the anatomic topographic regions of the neck;
- To present and discuss aspects of the sectional anatomy of the head and neck;
- To present, in a interactive way, the imagological anatomy of the face and neck;
- To discuss the anatomic-clinical correlations of the head and neck.

 

Learning outcomes and competences

The student should be able at the end of this UC:

Knowledge

- To know the correct utilization of the anatomic terminology;

- To know the description of the anatomic organization of the different components of the head and neck;

- To know to identify the most important events in the development of the head and neck;

- To know the correlation of the anatomic aspects with the imagology of the head and neck;

- To know the correlation of the anatomic aspects with clinical situations of the head and neck;

Skills

- To be able to use informatics for the learning area of the morphology of the head and neck;

Behaviors

- Appreciation of meaning of the human body in teaching and health investigation;       

- Appreciation of learning throughout life.

Frontal, parietal occipital, temporal, sphenoid and ethmoid bones

Functional anatomy of ATM

Blood vessels from head and neck

Maxilla, vomer, palatal bones, zygomatic, nasal and lacrimal; nasal inferior shell; lower jaw, hyoid bone, temporomandibular articulation

Introduction to imagological anatomy

Muscles and fasciae from head and neck

Muscles, vessels and nerves from head and neck

General anatomy of the nervous system (SNC+SNP+SNA)

Introduction to the head study: anatomy of head development, head in general and superficial regions of the head

Introduction to the neck study: anatomy of neck development, neck in general and superficial anatomic topographic regions of the neck

Trigeminus, facial, glossopharyngeal, vague, accessories and hypoglossal nerves

Clinical anatomy of the deep regions of the face; nasal pits and perinasal breasts

Clinical anatomy of the mouth and teeth

Clinical anatomy of the submandibular region, mouth pavement and salivary glandules: mastication, salivation and deglutition  

Synopsis of the anatomic structures of the head and neck
